Music Talent Hunt Empowering Tea Tribe Children in Assam
In a significant move towards enhancing education and fostering creativity, The Hans Foundation, in collaboration with Assam's Department of Secondary Education, has launched a music talent hunt and mentorship initiative across model schools in tea garden areas of the state.
Expanding Horizons of Education
The initiative, which covers 54 model schools spread across Sonitpur, Tinsukia, and Dibrugarh districts, is part of The Hans Foundation's Uttam Xikhyaprogramme, designed to improve the access, quality, and outcomes of education for tea tribe children. By April this year, the number of schools under this programme is set to increase to 101.
Formal Music Education
The Hans Foundation has introduced formal music education programmes across all 54 Model Schools, appointing dedicated music teachers for each institution. This initiative underscores the foundation's belief that education should extend beyond textbooks to truly empower children.
Empowering Marginalized Communities
Jurismita Puzari, Program Manager, North East, The Hans Foundation, emphasized that music is a potent medium for self-expression, confidence-building, and discipline, especially for children from marginalized communities. This initiative is expected to provide these children with a platform to showcase their talents and grow in confidence.
Relevance to North East Region and India
This initiative holds particular significance for the North East region, where education and opportunities for marginalized communities are crucial. It aligns with the Indian government's efforts to provide quality education and equal opportunities to all citizens, irrespective of their socio-economic background.
Looking Forward
As this music talent hunt and mentorship initiative unfolds, it is hoped that it will not only foster creativity and talent among tea tribe children but also serve as a model for similar initiatives in other regions. The potential benefits for these children, in terms of confidence, discipline, and opportunities, are immense, and this initiative is a step in the right direction towards realizing these benefits.
