A New Chapter for Zubeen Garg's Legacy: The Establishment of the Zubeen Garg Trust

In the heart of Northeast India, the Assamese cultural landscape has experienced a significant shift. Garima Saikia Garg, the wife of the late Assamese singer and cultural icon, Zubeen Garg, has announced the formation of the Zubeen Garg Trust. This move signifies a commitment to preserving Zubeen Garg's work and continuing his engagement in cultural, artistic, and social initiatives.

Preserving Zubeen Garg's Work and Ideals

According to Garima, the Trust has been established to honor Zubeen Garg's unfinished aspirations and to continue the initiatives he had envisioned for society, culture, nature, and future generations. The Trust will function through three wings: the Kalaguru Foundation, the Abhinaya Performing Arts Centre, and a Research Wing.

  • The Kalaguru Foundation will carry out socio-cultural and community initiatives.
  • The Abhinaya Performing Arts Centre, dedicated to Zubeen Garg's late sister, will focus on theatre and performing arts.
  • A Research Wing will document and study Zubeen Garg's life, works, intellectual property, and cultural contributions.

Connecting to the Northeast and Beyond

Zubeen Garg's influence extends beyond Assam, reaching the broader Indian context. His music and performances have resonated with audiences across the nation, making him a symbol of Northeast Indian culture and talent. The establishment of the Zubeen Garg Trust reflects the region's growing cultural prominence and the importance of preserving its artistic heritage for future generations.

Ensuring Transparency and Authenticity

Garima emphasized the importance of carrying out all work related to Zubeen Garg honestly and transparently. She also expressed concern about the responsible documentation of Zubeen Garg's life and work, urging against the publication of unverified or inaccurate material.

Moving Forward with Support

The Trust will be managed by a board consisting of Zubeen Garg's uncle, Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Gautam Sarma, Garima Saikia Garg, Palmee Borthakur, and several close associates, well-wishers, and family members. The initiative has received support from Zubeen Garg's friends from his student days, members of Assam's social, cultural, administrative, and media circles, as well as members of the Zubeen Fan Club.

Looking Ahead

As the Trust embarks on this new journey, it carries with it the hopes and dreams of Zubeen Garg and his fans. The Trust's work will not only preserve Zubeen Garg's legacy but also inspire future generations of artists and cultural enthusiasts. With the Trust's establishment, Zubeen Garg's influence will continue to be felt in the hearts and souls of the people of Assam and beyond.
