Canadian Cyclist Sets New World Record in Toughest One-Day Mountain Bike Race

In a spectacular display of endurance and resilience, Canadian cyclist Cory Wallace clinched victory at the MTB Northeast International Challenge 2025, a grueling one-day mountain biking race widely recognized as the world's longest and most challenging.

The Race and its Challenges

Commencing at the Dirak Gate in the dead of night on 30 December, the race covered a grueling 303-km route from Namsai to Kaho, the first village of India. The participants were pushed to their physical and mental limits, making it a true test of endurance.

Winners and Achievements

Wallace completed the race in a world-record time of 12 hours, 29 minutes, and 55 seconds, finishing ahead of Manmohan Singh of the Army Adventure Wings (AAW/India), who secured the first runner-up position. Raman Manhas, also representing the Indian Army, finished second runner-up.

  • In the men's elite 150-km category, Akshay Kumar from AAW, India, emerged victorious.
  • In the junior boys (U-18) category, Dekkar Lendo from Arunachal Pradesh claimed the title.
  • In the women's elite category, Nane Mega from Arunachal Pradesh took the top honor.
  • The masters 35+ category was won by Krashanvendra Singh Yadav from the Indian Military Academy.
  • In the non-MTB 150-km (female) category, Usha Khanal from Nepal emerged the winner.

Relevance to North East Region and India

The event attracted cyclists from 15 states of India and three countries, showcasing the growing popularity of mountain biking and endurance sports in the region and the country as a whole. The participation of international riders also highlights the increasing recognition of North East India as a destination for such events.
