Analysis: APC holds first coordination meet with dist press clubs

Strengthening Journalism in Arunachal Pradesh: APC and DPCs Join Forces

Arunachal Pradesh's Journalistic Unity: A Step Towards Informed North East

In a significant move aimed at bolstering regional journalism, the Arunachal Press Club (APC) recently held a coordination meeting with district press clubs (DPCs) across the state. The goal? To strengthen the collective voice of the press and address the challenges faced by journalists at the district level.

Addressing Communication Gaps

One of the key issues discussed was the lack of communication from district administrations regarding government programs and activities. In response, the APC and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) pledged to write to relevant authorities, ensuring that all government-related communications are channeled through district press clubs.

Media House Registration and Guidelines

The meeting also touched upon the need for clarity on media house registration under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), or MSME. The APC highlighted that, as per the state government's recently announced advertising policy, media outlets seeking empanelment and government advertisements must be registered with the MCA or MIB. The district representatives were urged to disseminate this information among affiliated media houses and complete the registration process by March 2026.

Ensuring Ethical Practices and Coordination

Emphasizing the importance of avoiding conflict of interest, the APC clarified that owners of media houses cannot hold positions such as president, general secretary, or executive member of district press clubs. Furthermore, the APUWJ emphasized the need to strengthen membership and enhance coordination in information dissemination for the larger public interest.

Implications for North East and India

This collaborative effort between the APC and DPCs is not just significant for Arunachal Pradesh but also for the broader North East region and India. By ensuring better communication, ethical practices, and coordination, these press clubs are working towards a more informed and engaged citizenry, which is essential for democratic governance.

Looking Forward: A Vigilant and United Press

The meetings concluded with a commitment to address the challenges faced by district press clubs and to sensitize members on issues related to reporting during VVIP visits to districts. With a focus on ethical practices, strengthened coordination, and enhanced information dissemination, the Arunachal Press Club and district press clubs are setting an example for the journalistic community in India.
