A Spiritual Milestone for Northeast India: Three Priests Ordained in Phek District

In a significant event for the Catholic Church in Northeast India, three deacons were ordained as priests at St Ignatius Parish, Razeba, in Phek district on Wednesday. This historic moment not only marked a new chapter for the parish and the Diocese of Kohima but also resonated across the region.

The Ordination: A Solemn Ceremony

The solemn priestly ordination Mass was presided over by Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, and was attended by a large gathering of clergy, religious, parents, relatives, village elders, and the faithful from various parts of the region.

The Homily: God's Call to Service

In his homily, Bishop Thoppil emphasized that a priestly vocation is always initiated by God. He reminded the ordinands that they were chosen even before they felt worthy and encouraged them to be shepherds after the heart of Christ, faithful in preaching the Gospel, administering the sacraments, and leading God's people in prayer and holiness.

The Felicitation: Honoring the Newly Ordained

Following the Eucharistic celebration, a felicitation programme was organized to honor the newly ordained priests. Bishop Thoppil urged families and the Christian community to actively encourage priestly and religious vocations, noting that vocations flourish in homes rooted in faith and prayer.

The Message: Embrace a Life of Service

During the programme, Fr Valerian delivered a message to the youth, encouraging them to embrace a life of service and sacrifice and to respond courageously to God's call. Speaking on behalf of the newly ordained priests, Fr Avi Abraham expressed gratitude to the Bishop, parents, formators, parish priests, and the faithful for their prayers, guidance, and support throughout their journey to the priesthood.

Implications: Nurturing Vocations in Northeast India

This ordination serves as a reminder of the importance of nurturing and encouraging vocations in Northeast India, particularly in homes rooted in faith and prayer. As the region continues to grow and evolve, the role of the Catholic Church and its leaders will be crucial in fostering spiritual growth and guidance for its community.

Looking Forward: A New Chapter Begins

As these three men embark on their new journey as priests, they carry with them the hopes and prayers of their community. Their ordination not only marks a historic moment for the Diocese of Kohima but also serves as an inspiration for the next generation of Catholics in Northeast India.
