Unity Among Nagas: A Call Across Borders
The recent 60th general session of the Yimkhiung Akher Arihako (YAA), the apex student body of the Yimkhiung Naga community, held in Shamator, near the India-Myanmar border, highlighted the need for unity among Nagas living across international boundaries.
Naga Identity and Unity
Achumbemo Kikon, MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), emphasized the shared identity of Nagas, regardless of the artificial international borders that divide them. He stressed that no Naga is superior or inferior, with such distinctions being mere mental constructs.
Youth Empowerment and Responsibility
Kikon also urged the youth to embrace their role in strengthening society and fostering unity, encouraging them to make responsible choices in their daily lives. He emphasized the changing global scenario and called upon the youth to shoulder greater responsibility and contribute positively towards building a better future.
Development of Shamator and Cultural Heritage
Kikon also appealed to the people of Shamator to cooperate in the development of the district headquarters, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and collective responsibility for sustainable growth. The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Yimkhiung community through traditional performances presented by the Western Yimkhiung Students Union.
Relevance to North East India and Beyond
The call for Naga unity and the emphasis on youth empowerment resonate with the larger context of the North East region and India as a whole. As diverse communities strive for unity and development, the role of young leaders in shaping the future cannot be overstated.
Looking Ahead
The 60th general session of the Yimkhiung Akher Arihako serves as a reminder of the shared identity and aspirations of the Naga community, transcending international borders. As the youth take on greater responsibility, they have the potential to foster unity and contribute to a brighter future for all Nagas.
