Reflections of the Elderly: Lessons for Northeast India
Four years ago, the publication of the book "Nagas 80 Plus" marked a significant moment in the lives of 42 elderly Nagas. As editors, we had the privilege to oversee its publication, and although some contributors have since passed away, many are still alive and well.
The Wisdom of the Elders
In the fast-paced, ever-changing world we live in, the value of the knowledge and wisdom of the elderly is often overlooked. Yet, these individuals serve as living libraries of history, their experiences offering invaluable insights for future generations. As the authors of "Nagas 80 Plus" have demonstrated, there is no retirement age when it comes to serving one's nation or society.
The Importance of History
The importance of remembering history cannot be overstated. A nation that forgets its past risks losing its identity. This is particularly relevant for Northeast India, a region with a rich and diverse cultural heritage. By learning from the experiences of our elders, we can better understand our past and shape our future.
The Responsibility of Aging
As we grow older, we are not merely entitled to enjoy our lives, but also to bear the responsibility of sharing our experiences and wisdom. The elders in our society have a unique perspective that can guide us through the challenges we face. This is especially true in the context of Northeast India, where the region continues to grapple with issues of identity, development, and peace.
A Call to Action
As we step into the New Year, we extend our warm greetings and prayers to all the elderly in Northeast India. May they be blessed with good health and long life. We also encourage the younger generation to take a moment to listen to the stories of their elders, and to learn from their experiences. For it is through their wisdom that we can build a better future for ourselves and our region.
