NEC's Impactful Investments in Arunachal Pradesh: Boosting Infrastructure, Healthcare, and Livelihoods
Strengthening Healthcare Services and Tourism
In a significant move, the North Eastern Council (NEC) allocated Rs 4.24 crore for key projects in Arunachal Pradesh last year. These initiatives, such as the nursing hostel at Yingkiong's district hospital and the maternity and child care centre at Miao, aim to enhance healthcare services while promoting tourism in the region. The development of the Tissa viewpoint near Tissa Camp is another notable project aimed at boosting tourism.
Improving Connectivity and Access
Recognizing the importance of connectivity, the NEC released Rs 13.50 crore under the NESIDS Roads scheme for essential road projects in Arunachal Pradesh. The 21-km Murung Gika Panior road in Papum Pare district and the Bana EAC Richukrong road in East Kameng are among the upgrades that are expected to benefit approximately 19,500 people across 15 villages. These improvements will facilitate better access to remote and administrative areas.
Empowering Local Livelihoods
To support returning migrant workers, the NEC launched a Rs 2.60-crore livelihood project. This initiative offers skill development and self-employment opportunities, enabling residents to earn sustainable income locally. By reducing distress migration and strengthening the post-pandemic economy, this project is a significant step towards self-reliance.
Encouraging STEM Education and Careers
In the education and youth sector, Arunachal Pradesh students participated in the NE-SPARKS programme, visiting Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) centres in Bengaluru. This initiative exposes students to India's space science ecosystem, encouraging STEM education and careers in science and technology. The programme is a testament to the NEC's commitment to fostering a knowledge-based economy in the Northeast.
Relevance to North East Region and India
The NEC's investments in Arunachal Pradesh reflect the Centre's commitment to supporting inclusive development and promoting balanced growth across the Northeast. By addressing critical infrastructure gaps, improving healthcare, and empowering local livelihoods, the NEC is contributing to a more prosperous and self-reliant Northeast. This, in turn, will bolster India's overall growth and development.
Looking Forward
As the NEC continues to invest in the Northeast, we can expect to see further improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and livelihoods. These investments will not only benefit the people of Arunachal Pradesh but also contribute to a stronger, more resilient Northeast and India as a whole. The NEC's focus on self-reliance and sustainable development is a promising sign for the future of the region.
