In a significant development, the Manipur Police has apprehended two senior insurgents in connection with a series of shooting incidents that occurred in Imphal West district. This arrest marks a significant blow to the underground insurgent groups operating in the region.

Identifying the Perpetrators

The arrests followed an intensive investigation and analysis of CCTV footage from the crime scenes, which helped establish the identities of two active cadres of an underground group. The arrestees were identified as members of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon).

The Arrested Suspects

  • Khaidem Ranjit, a 65-year-old resident of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba in Imphal West district, was arrested from his residence.
  • Sanasam Biramangol, a 63-year-old resident of Phumlou and currently residing at Tera Loukrakpam in Imphal West district, was arrested from Phumlou in the same district.

The Role of the Arrested Suspects

The Manipur Police accused the duo of involvement in at least eight firing incidents, including an earlier attack at the residence of Dr Loken at Uripok in Imphal West district. However, a third suspect, who is believed to have been involved in the incidents, remains at large.
