Amrit Bharat Express: A Leap Forward in Connectivity for Assam and West Bengal
In a significant stride towards enhancing rail connectivity, the Indian Railways is set to introduce nine Amrit Bharat Express trains that will link West Bengal and Assam with various parts of the country, as announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on January 14, 2026.

These new services will connect several Indian states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, with West Bengal and Assam. The routes encompass stations such as Guwahati (Kamakhya), Dibrugarh, New Jalpaiguri, Nagercoil, Tiruchirappalli, SMVT Bengaluru, Mumbai (Panvel), Tambaram, Anand Vihar Terminal, Banaras, and Sealdah.
Affordable Long-Distance Travel for All
The Amrit Bharat Express service aims to provide non-AC long-distance sleeper class travel at fares of approximately Rs 500 per thousand kilometers. This affordable pricing, combined with improved amenities, is expected to make long-distance travel more accessible for passengers across the country.
Enhanced Passenger Facilities
The new trains will feature several passenger-friendly facilities, including foldable snack tables, mobile and bottle holders, radium floor strips, improved seating and berths, modern toilets with electro-pneumatic flushing, fire suppression systems, and provisions for divyangjan passengers. Additionally, fast charging points and pantry cars will further improve comfort during long-distance journeys.
