Arunachal Pradesh Empowers Youth as Disaster First Responders
In a significant move towards strengthening disaster preparedness, Arunachal Pradesh is set to receive 152 trained National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet volunteers, including 80 female cadets. These young individuals will serve as first responders to disaster management situations across the state.
Training and Capacity Building
The training for these cadets was conducted as part of the Combined Annual Training Camp-cum-Yuva Aapda Mitra (YAM) programme at Dera Natung Government College. The programme, organized by 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion, NCC, focused primarily on disaster preparedness and response. The Arunachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) took the lead in providing training on disaster management and response systems.
- Cadets underwent intensive theoretical and practical sessions, learning about disaster preparedness, basic search and rescue techniques, first aid, casualty evacuation, and coordination with civil authorities.
- Special attention was given to managing region-specific disasters such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and cloudbursts, equipping cadets to act swiftly and effectively during emergencies.

During the closing ceremony, senior NCC officers and SDMA representatives commended the cadets for their discipline, commitment, and enthusiasm. Dignitaries emphasized the crucial role of trained youth in disaster risk reduction and strengthening community resilience, especially in a disaster-prone state like Arunachal Pradesh.
