A Comprehensive Re-Verification of Land Compensation for Arunachal Pradesh's Highway Project
Amidst growing public scrutiny, a seven-member committee has embarked on the re-verification of land compensation for the Lada-Sarli Frontier Highway project in Arunachal Pradesh. This move comes in the wake of allegations of irregularities in the land compensation process.
Challenges in Packages 1 and 2
The initial stages of the reassessment, involving Packages 1 and 2, have proven to be particularly challenging. Led by Chairman and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Likabali, Mokar Riba, the team started from 14.600 km at Eyu Anung, near Rapung village, and encountered tough terrain that made progress slow. Despite walking more than 8 km on the first day, they could only officially measure over one kilometre.
Progress in Package 3 and 4
Meanwhile, the Package 3 and 4 teams, led by SDO Hunli Rakesh Tacho, have also commenced their reassessment, starting from Pakke Camp, the starting point of Package 3. The Deputy Commissioner Yashwini has been overseeing the progress of Packages 3 and 5.
Demands for Thorough Re-Verification
Local organizations such as the East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organisation, the All Nyishi Youth Association (East Kameng district unit), and activists Sol Dodum and Adv. Sunday Bagang have been vocal about their demand for a thorough re-verification and the immediate arrest of those involved in the scam.
Arrests and Future Implications
So far, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested four individuals connected to the case, including DLRSO Takam Kechak, broker Rajo Gyadi, Yayo Yangfo, and Khya Byagang.
