A New Initiative for Agricultural Development in Northeast India
In a significant step towards improving agricultural production and livelihood opportunities in border regions, the Aditya-Prabha Gram Project was inaugurated on 14th January at the College of Agriculture in Pasighat, East Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh. Funded by the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Ministry through the North Eastern Council (NEC), this project aims to promote agricultural development and rural awareness in the eastern Himalayas.
Vision for a Self-reliant India
Speaking at the event, NEC Shillong Secretary Satinder Kumar Bhalla emphasized the need to align with the vision of Viksit Bharat, India's vision for a self-reliant and developed nation. He encouraged entrepreneurship and startup initiatives among the youth, stressing that youth-driven enterprises are essential for building a self-reliant India.
Inclusive Agricultural Transformation
Central Agricultural University (CAU) Director LM Garnayak explained that the Aditya-Prabha Gram Project aims at agricultural development through inclusive transformation of youths in agri-allied sectors. The project focuses on fostering agricultural harmony in border communities of the eastern Himalayas.
Pilot Project for Border Regions
Eastern Arunachal MP Tapir Gao referred to the Aditya-Prabha Gram Project as a pilot project, designed to test innovative models for agricultural and rural development in border areas. He expressed hope that successful implementation of the pilot would lead to expansion of similar projects across more border regions in the future.
Regional Impact and Relevance
The Aditya-Prabha Gram Project covers two Northeastern states, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, spanning seven border districts sharing international boundaries with China, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, and Tibet. This initiative holds significant relevance for Northeast India, as it aims to strengthen border villages and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
