Empowering Career Guidance in Northeast India
Recent workshops in Itanagar have underscored the importance of career guidance for students across the region. The state-level workshops, organized by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), focused on familiarizing vocational education teachers and stakeholders with the Career Guide Book and My Career Advisor mobile application.
Career Guide Book: A Comprehensive Resource
The Career Guide Book, a newly developed resource, aims to provide students with insights into diverse career options, skill requirements, and future opportunities. Resource persons from various organizations conducted sessions on the structure and utility of the book, emphasizing its role in helping students make informed decisions about their academic and career pathways.
My Career Advisor App: A Practical Tool
The My Career Advisor app, another key component of the initiative, offers features such as career assessments, guidance modules, and easy accessibility for students and educators. A live demonstration of the app was presented, showcasing its potential to support students and teachers in making well-informed career decisions.
Integrating Career Guidance into Education
The workshops also addressed strategies for integrating career guidance into the regular teaching-learning process. Participants were encouraged to act as career mentors/counsellors, especially at the secondary and higher secondary stages. The initiative aims to empower teachers to guide students effectively, fostering a more comprehensive educational experience.
Relevance to Northeast India and Beyond
The importance of career guidance extends beyond the immediate context of Itanagar. In the broader Indian context, the initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE)-2023, which emphasize the need for vocational education and career guidance. In Northeast India, such initiatives can play a crucial role in equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate their future careers, thereby contributing to the region's socio-economic development.
Looking Forward
As the workshops conclude, participants expressed confidence that the Career Guide Book and My Career Advisor app will serve as valuable tools in supporting students to make well-informed career decisions. The initiative underscores the commitment of education stakeholders in Northeast India to empower students and teachers, fostering a more informed and dynamic educational landscape.
