Skill Development Workshop in Upper Subansiri District
In a bid to boost employment opportunities for the youth in Northeast India, particularly in Upper Subansiri district, an awareness workshop on the Prime Minister's National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS) was organized recently. This event, jointly conducted by the Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Department (SDED) and the District Skill Committee, aimed to equip local trainees and unemployed youth with essential skills to secure employment.
Unlocking Opportunities through PM-NAPS and SAPS
SDED Deputy Director Gyati Kacho emphasized the importance of availing the benefits offered by PM-NAPS and the State Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (SAPS). He urged the trainees of ITI Tabarijo and unemployed youth to seize these opportunities to enhance their skills and employability. In the context of limited industries and employment opportunities within the state, Kacho encouraged the youth to venture outside the state by joining apprenticeship and on-the-job trainings.
- Under the NAPS, apprentices will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500, with additional support of Rs 1,500 for APST apprentices traveling outside the state.
- Apprentices will also be paid stipends by employers ranging from Rs 6,800 to Rs 12,300 per month, depending on their educational qualifications.
- Under the SAPS, trainees will receive Rs 11,625 per month and a one-time travel allowance of Rs 5,000.
- During their apprenticeship training, a trainee can expect to receive Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per month.
Empowering Youth with Education and Loans
The workshop also highlighted the Chief Minister's Soft Loan Scheme (CMSLS) and the Foreign Language Training Programme and Overseas Employment (FLTP). Under CMSLS, ITI passed candidates can receive loans of up to Rs 3 lakh in two tranches, with additional incentives for tool and equipment purchases. Completing the repayment of loan tranches may result in a 25% subsidy on each tranche amount and a 7% interest subsidy.
The FLTP offers 70% state government funding for training fees, medical tests, exams, visas, and boarding and lodging. The government also provides loans to cover the remaining 30%.
A Step towards Employment for Northeast Youth
The initiatives discussed in this workshop present a significant opportunity for Northeast India's youth, particularly in Upper Subansiri district, to access better employment opportunities. By venturing outside the state for apprenticeships and on-the-job trainings, young individuals can acquire valuable skills and experience, increasing their employability.
