Border Security: 18 Bangladeshis, 2 Indians Arrested in West Jaintia Hills

In a significant move to safeguard the northeastern border, the West Jaintia Hills Police recently apprehended a group of 18 Bangladeshi nationals, 2 Indian touts, and 5 drivers attempting to cross into Meghalaya. Early in the morning of January 20, a joint operation by the West Jaintia Hills Police Special Team, headman, and Village Defence Parties (VDPs) of Demthring village successfully apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals and one vehicle. A hot pursuit led to the interception of two more Indian touts and their vehicle near Sanmala Guest House, Amlarem.

Upon further investigation, three more vehicles carrying 14 Bangladeshi nationals were intercepted at the Amlarem market area.

The arrested individuals, including the Indian touts Meban Dkhar and Melari Rasmut, have been taken into custody for further legal action under the provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
