Analysis: Viksit Bharat focuses on village-led development revolution: Sarbananda Sonowal

Village-Led Development Revolution: A New Era for Rural India

Why this News Matters for North East India

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's recent statement emphasizes the significance of rural development in India's growth trajectory, a focus that holds particular relevance for the North East region. The vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, with its emphasis on village-led development, promises to bring about transformative changes in rural India, impacting millions of lives, including those in the North East.

Village-First Development Revolution

Union Minister Sonowal underscored the importance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, stating that it is driving a historic village-first and village-led development revolution. This revolution positions rural India at the forefront of the nation's growth journey, ensuring last-mile delivery, empowering farmers, workers, and youth, and building the foundation for a self-reliant India.

Transforming Villages into Engines of Economic Progress

Sonowal explained that Viksit Bharat 2047 is not just a slogan but a national mission aimed at transforming villages into engines of economic progress. By focusing on villages, the nation can progress, as when villages prosper, the nation does too.

VB-G RAM G: A Statutory Assurance of Livelihood

The Minister highlighted the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), or VB-G RAM G, a new framework that guarantees dignified livelihoods for poor and backward families by providing a statutory assurance of 125 days of employment per rural household. This initiative aims to strengthen income security and links employment with water security, infrastructure creation, connectivity, and long-term productivity.

Decline in Rural Poverty and Improved Connectivity

Sonowal noted that rural poverty has seen a sharp decline over the past decade, falling from 25.7% in 2011-12 to 8.36% in 2023-24, aided by improved connectivity, direct benefit transfer, and technology-driven governance. This improvement is crucial for the North East region, where better connectivity can facilitate economic growth and development.

Political Implications and Reflections

In a political attack, Sonowal criticized the opposition's stance on Viksit Bharat, stating that their opposition reflects outdated politics. In contrast, the BJP has ushered in a new political culture of performance, transparency, and Garib Kalyan, where governance is focused on empowering the last person in the queue.

As the nation moves towards 2047, the vision of Viksit Bharat offers a promising path for rural development, one that is rooted in empowerment, transparency, and self-reliance. For the North East region, this vision presents an opportunity to accelerate economic growth and improve the lives of millions.
