Absence of Medical Officers Threatens Health Services in Phek District
In a concerning development, the Phek District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) has raised alarm over the absence of Medical Officers in nine Primary Health Centres (PHCs) under the Chief Medical Officer, Phek. This issue was brought to light during a meeting held recently at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall in Kohima.
Nine PHCs Operating Without Doctors
A presentation by District Programme Manager Dr Sedeu Rupreo revealed that these nine PHCs are currently functioning without medical professionals. This situation poses a significant challenge to the delivery of healthcare services in the affected areas, particularly in the newly upgraded Meluri district.
Government's Commitment to Healthcare
Addressing the concern, Advisor for CAWD and Taxes and DPDB Advisor, Phek, Kudecho Khamo, assured that the government recognizes the importance of healthcare services and would initiate measures to post Medical Officers in the affected PHCs shortly.
Recognizing Naga Personalities
Besides discussing the healthcare issue, the board also deliberated on a proposal to name roads and institutions after prominent Naga personalities in the district, in accordance with directives issued by the Home Department, Government of Nagaland.
Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament
During the meeting, ADC Phek Thehakhrienuo Nisa presented a report on the Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament held from November 4 to 6, 2025, in which DEF Phek emerged as the overall champion.
Engaging in Mass Social Work and Regular Meetings
Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Rhosietho Nguori emphasized the need for active participation in the monthly mass social work in Phek town and stressed the importance of regular attendance at DPDB meetings.
