Clean and Green Yingkiong: A Collective Effort Towards Environmental Conservation
In the heart of Arunachal Pradesh, the Upper Siang district recently took a significant step towards environmental conservation. A cleanliness drive, named "All hands for clean and green Yingkiong," was organized on January 22, 2020, under the leadership of the Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Society (APWWS).
Community Participation and Collaboration
Hundreds of people, including APWWS members, administrative officers, and government officials, actively participated in the drive. The event was a testament to the power of collective action, with the APWWS units of Yingkiong, Simong, Mariyang, Geku, and Jengging joining forces. Together, they collected tonnes of plastic waste from the township's general ground and various colonies.
Promoting Proper Waste Disposal
As part of the initiative, bamboo dustbins were strategically installed to encourage proper waste disposal. The Yingkiong APWWS president, Kasimang Jopir Pazing, urged the public to adopt a civic sense and make regular use of these dustbins to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. She emphasized the importance of collective responsibility towards environmental conservation and a plastic-free future for future generations.
Setting an Example for Others
The Mariyang APWWS president, Totok Siram Borang, commended the efforts of the youth association MAYA in maintaining cleanliness in Mariyang town. Their initiative served as a positive example for others to follow.
Looking Ahead: The North East and Beyond
The cleanliness drive in Yingkiong underscores the need for collective action in preserving our environment. In the context of North East India, where the natural beauty and biodiversity are unique and precious, such initiatives assume even greater importance. The efforts of the APWWS and its collaborators serve as a beacon of hope, inspiring similar initiatives across the region and the nation.
As we move forward, it is crucial to remember that environmental conservation is everyone's responsibility. Let us strive to create cleaner, greener, and more sustainable communities, not just for ourselves, but for future generations.
