In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves across Manipur and the broader North East region, a young man named Mayanglangbam Rishikanta Singh, known as Ginminthang, was abducted and brutally murdered by suspected militants on January 21, 2026, in Churachandpur district.

The Heartbreaking Incident

Rishikanta Singh, a resident of Kakching Khunou Hijam Uchan Makhong Leikai in Kakching district, was taken at gunpoint along with his wife, Chingu Haokip, from their residence near the District Headquarters of Tuibong, Churachandpur. After a harrowing ordeal, Rishikanta was later found dead in the Natjang village, shot by unidentified armed miscreants.

Government's Response and Condolences

In response to this tragic event, the Manipur government announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the deceased. The Commissioner cum Secretary (Home), Government of Manipur, expressed condolences and shared the grief of the bereaved family. Moreover, the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, announced that the case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a thorough and impartial investigation.
