Northeast India's Emergence as an Engine of National Growth
In a significant development, the Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, has highlighted the Northeast's pivotal role in India's growth trajectory under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ashtalakshmi vision. This shift, as Scindia emphasized, has transformed the Northeast from a geographical frontier to an engine of national growth.
Ashtalakshmi Vision: A Catalyst for Northeast's Development
During a virtual event in Tripura, Scindia underscored the importance of the Ashtalakshmi vision, which aims to bring the eight states of the Northeast to the forefront of India's development. He pointed out that under this vision, the Northeast is no longer just a geographical frontier but a vital engine of growth for the nation.
Infrastructure Development and Budget Allocations
To facilitate this growth, Scindia mentioned that it has become mandatory for all 52 Central ministries to allocate 10% of their budgets towards the development of the Northeastern region. He also highlighted the substantial investments made in the Northeast in the past year, amounting to nearly Rs 1 lakh crore.
Tripura's Progress and Sustainable Development
In Tripura, a power-surplus state that has registered a growth rate of 10.5 to 11% over the past decade, several projects were inaugurated. Among these was the establishment of solar microgrids to supply power to remote hamlets, benefiting over 9,700 families in far-flung areas.

The focus on the Northeast's development is particularly significant for the region, which has historically faced challenges in terms of infrastructure, connectivity, and economic growth.
