The second edition of the Tawangchu Tides International Kayaking Championship is set to take place in Tawang district from February 10-15, offering an exciting opportunity for Arunachal Pradesh to excel in the Olympic sport of kayaking.
Government Support and Long-Term Vision
Arunachal Kayaking Canoeing Association (AKCA) president Dr Joram Aniya expressed his optimism about the government's support for the championship and the potential for creating a training center to nurture future athletes. AKCA general secretary Nino Dai emphasized the importance of the event as a long-term plan to establish Arunachal as a kayaking powerhouse in India.
International Participation
The event is expected to attract over 100 participants from around the world, including countries such as France, Russia, the USA, Germany, the UK, Malaysia, Thailand, and various parts of the Northeast.
Categories and Prize Money
The competition will be divided into amateur and professional categories, with multiple races and an attractive prize money of 16.5 lakhs.
Safety Measures and Tourism Promotion
A 10-member safety team has been established for the event, with the NDRF also present to ensure the river's safety. While the primary focus is on the sporting events, tourism will also be promoted through the championship, with a 200-meter course for international and national teams and a separate, easier course for amateurs.
