The North East Catholic Research Forum (NECRF) has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for urgent intervention against escalating targeted attacks, intimidation, and restrictions faced by the Christian community across India, particularly during the Christmas season.

The NECRF acknowledged Modi's recent outreach to the Christian community, including his participation in Easter and Christmas programs, as positively received by Christians nationwide. In its representation to the Prime Minister, the NECRF highlighted numerous incidents of violence and harassment, including physical assaults, sexual offences, murders, threats, intimidation, destruction of churches, disruption of prayer services, and desecration of religious symbols.

The NECRF accused certain organizations, such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, and affiliates of the Sangh Parivar, of carrying out these incidents. The forum also alleged that anti-conversion laws in certain states were being misused to harass poor and marginalized Christians and to obstruct religious and humanitarian activities.
