Dong Volleyball Club Wins Central Si-Donyi Hilo Volleyball Tournament

In a thrilling finale, Dong Volleyball Club (DVC) emerged victorious at the 52nd Central Si-Donyi Hilo Yade Nidak Volleyball Tournament, held in Daporijo, Upper Subansiri district. The team clinched the title after a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Chetam Volleyball Club.

A Closely Contested Final

The match was a rollercoaster ride, with DVC winning the first set 23-25, but quickly bouncing back to win the second set 25-17. They continued their dominance in the third set, securing a 25-10 victory. However, Chetam Volleyball Club staged a comeback, winning the fourth set 22-25, setting the stage for a nail-biting fifth set.

In the decisive fifth set, DVC displayed their resilience, securing a 15-13 win and claiming the championship. The victory was well-deserved, as DVC had earlier defeated Dugi Volleyball Club in straight sets to reach the final.

Rewarding the Champions

The winning team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a trophy, while the runner-up received Rs 50,000 and a trophy. The prizes were generously sponsored by former home minister Daklo Nidak Tamin, in memory of his wife, Yade Nidak, for whom the tournament was organized.

Daklo Nidak Tamin is the second person to sponsor the Si-Donyi Hilo Volleyball Tournament, following the Dubi family, who had sponsored the Dubi Nogam Memorial Volleyball Tournament's running trophy from 2019-22.

A Legacy of Cultural Preservation

Yade Nidak was a founding member of the Donyi Ane Punung Troupe for the Si-Donyi Hilo in 1975. She worked tirelessly for the protection, preservation, and promotion of indigenous faith and culture.

This tournament is not just a sports event but also a tribute to her lifelong dedication to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Implications for North East India

The success of such local tournaments not only fosters healthy competition but also provides a platform for the promotion of local culture and talent. This is particularly significant for the North East region, which is known for its diverse cultures and rich heritage.

Moreover, such events can serve as a catalyst for community engagement, fostering a sense of unity and pride among the locals.

Looking Forward

The Central Si-Donyi Hilo Yade Nidak Volleyball Tournament has once again proven to be a platform for showcasing talent and promoting local culture. As we look forward to future editions, let us hope that more such initiatives will emerge, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and cultural preservation in the region.
