On 9th December, a heated argument erupted between two groups at a birthday party hosted by one of the accused, Suraj Khwas, a resident of Manipur. The argument escalated, leading to physical altercations. Anjel Chakma and his brother, Michael Chakma, were injured in the fight.

Anjel's father, a BSF jawan, claimed that his son was attacked after he tried to defend his brother, who was subjected to racial slurs. However, the Dehradun police have so far found no evidence to support these allegations.

The Investigation

The police have taken statements from local residents and collected digital evidence, including CCTV footage. Five of the six accused named in the FIR have been taken into custody, while efforts are being made to trace the remaining accused, Yagyraj Awasthi.
