Analysis: ISL under AIFF control, schedule of delayed season to be revealed next week

ISL's Restart Under AIFF Control: Implications for North East Football

Indian Super League (ISL) to Restart Under AIFF Control: What Does This Mean for Football in North East India?

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has confirmed that it will conduct the delayed Indian Super League (ISL) season, with the schedule set to be revealed next week. This decision comes after a meeting of the AIFF's Emergency Committee, which acknowledged a report submitted by the AIFF-ISL Coordination Committee.

Formation of the AIFF-ISL Coordination Committee

The Coordination Committee was established on December 20, 2025, following discussions during the AIFF Executive Committee meeting and the subsequent Annual General Meeting. Its primary task was to submit a report to the AIFF Secretariat by January 2, 2026, which was duly completed.

Implications for North East India and the Broader Indian Context

For football enthusiasts in North East India, the restart of the ISL is significant. Teams such as NorthEast United FC, Hyderabad FC, and SC East Bengal, among others, have a strong following in the region. The restart of the league will not only bring back the excitement of live football but also provide an opportunity for local talent to showcase their skills.

The Humanitarian, Sporting, and Economic Crisis

Prior to the AIFF's decision, Indian and ISL stars such as Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Sandesh Jhingan, and Hugo Boumous had called for FIFA's intervention to end the "humanitarian, sporting, and economic crisis" that players have been facing.

Looking Forward

The restart of the ISL under AIFF control is a positive step towards resuming competitive football in India. However, it is crucial that the concerns raised by the players are addressed promptly to ensure the well-being and fair treatment of all participants. As the ISL schedule is revealed, football fans across the nation, including those in North East India, will eagerly await the return of their favorite teams.
