UP Warriorz's Revamped Squad for WPL 2026: A Fresh Hope for Playoffs
The Women's Premier League (WPL) is set to return in 2026, and one of the teams eager to make a mark is the UP Warriorz (UPW). After missing out on the playoffs in the last two seasons, the franchise has made significant changes to their squad in an attempt to break their playoff jinx.
Strengthening the Top Order
The Warriorz have made a strong statement by securing former Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning for INR 1.90 crore. Lanning, an Australian legend with over 950 runs in WPL history, brings immense experience and consistency to the side. She will open the innings alongside Kiran Navgire, a dynamic and explosive batter who was retained by UPW for INR 60 lakh. Phoebe Litchfield, bought for INR 1.20 crore, is likely to bat at number three, providing composure in the middle overs.
Balancing the Middle Order and Lower Order
The Warriorz have added power and balance to their middle order with the acquisition of Deandra Dottin for INR 80 lakh. Dottin, an experienced West Indies all-rounder, has already made a strong impact in the WPL, scoring 142 runs and picking up 9 wickets. Harleen Deol, a consistent performer with 482 runs in 20 WPL matches, will also feature in the middle order.
UPW had retained only one player ahead of the auction, Shweta Sehrawat, who is expected to be part of the playing XI. Deepti Sharma, brought back by Warriorz using the RTM card for a hefty INR 3.20 crore, offers valuable spin bowling and firepower in the lower order.
A Balanced and Experienced Bowling Unit
The bowling unit of UP looks well-balanced and experienced, led by Shikha Pandey, who was acquired for a massive INR 2.40 crore. Alongside her will be the world-class spin all-rounder Sophie Ecclestone, Asha Sobhana, and Kranti Gaud.

While the UP Warriorz are based in Lucknow, a city in Uttar Pradesh, the team's performance in the WPL can have implications for North East India and the broader Indian cricket scene.
