Analysis: VIDEO: Shreyas Iyer narrowly escapes Dog Bite ahead of IND vs NZ ODI series

Shreyas Iyer's Road to Recovery and the Upcoming IND vs NZ ODI Series

The Road to Recovery: Shreyas Iyer's Comeback in the IND vs NZ ODI Series

Indian cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on January 11 in Vadodara. A significant part of this anticipation revolves around the comeback of batter Shreyas Iyer, who has been working tirelessly to regain his form following a spleen injury sustained last year.

Recovering from the Spleen Injury

Iyer, who was appointed as the new ODI vice-captain ahead of the Australia tour, faced a spleen injury and internal bleeding during the third ODI in Sydney. He underwent surgery in Sydney and was out of action for almost two months. This forced him to miss the ODI series against South Africa as well.

Rehabilitation and Proving Fitness

After recovering from his injury, Iyer checked in at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) for rehabilitation in the last week of December. To prove his fitness, he played two games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 for Mumbai. Iyer scored 82 and 45 runs against Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, respectively, impressing himself with his performance.

A Close Encounter with a Dog Bite

Just when Iyer seemed to have overcome his setbacks, he narrowly escaped another incident involving a dog bite at the airport. While greeting a fan's dog, the animal tried to bite Iyer, but he quickly moved his fingers back and remained unharmed. This unexpected encounter was captured on video and went viral on Twitter.

The Upcoming ODI Series and Its Significance

The first ODI between India and New Zealand will take place in Vadodara on January 11. The series will consist of three games, with the second match scheduled for Rajkot on January 14 and the third game at Holkar Stadium in Indore on January 18.

It is essential to note that Iyer will be absent from the five T20I games following the ODI series. In his last match, the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide in October, Iyer scored a brilliant half-century (61) while playing for the losing side.

Implications for North East India and Beyond

The ODI series against New Zealand marks an important step in the rehabilitation of Shreyas Iyer and his journey back to the Indian cricket team. As a player who has shown great promise, his performance in this series will be closely watched by fans across the country, including the North East region.

Moreover, the series will provide valuable insights into the current form and strategies of both teams, offering a preview of what to expect in the upcoming T20I games.

Looking Ahead: Expectations and Hopes

As Iyer prepares to take the field once more, cricket fans in North East India and across the country will be rooting for his success. His comeback story serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination required to excel in sports, and his performance in the ODI series against New Zealand will undoubtedly inspire many aspiring athletes.
