Analysis: Omdia: Global smartphone shipments grew by 4% in Q4 25, Apple reigns supreme

Apple Dominates Global Smartphone Market in Q4 2025

Apple's Unmatched Lead in Global Smartphone Market

Apple's Unyielding Reign

The global smartphone market showed a modest 4% growth in the fourth quarter of 2025, as reported by Omdia. Amidst this growth, one company stood out Apple. With a record-breaking 25% market share, Apple sold one in every four smartphones shipped during the last three months of 2025.

The success of Apple can be attributed to the strong demand for the iPhone 17 series, particularly the base model, which served as the main growth driver. Even older models like the iPhone 16 series saw continued traction during the holiday period.

Samsung's Strategic Positioning

Samsung followed closely behind Apple with an estimated 18% share. Unlike Apple, which primarily focuses on premium devices, Samsung's performance was driven by smartphones in the sub-$300 segment. The Galaxy A17 4G and A17 5G models were praised as key volume drivers for Samsung.

The Rising Contenders

Xiaomi secured the third spot with a 11% market share, while vivo and Oppo shared the fourth place with 8% each. These brands have been steadily gaining ground in the global smartphone market.

Challenges Ahead

Looking ahead, the smartphone industry faces significant challenges, particularly in 2026. Rising memory costs and component shortages will pose major hurdles, especially for smartphone manufacturers in the budget segment.

Implications for Northeast India and Beyond

The dominance of Apple and other global brands in the smartphone market has far-reaching implications for the Northeast region of India and the broader Indian market. As smartphone penetration continues to grow, understanding consumer preferences and market trends will be crucial for local players and retailers to stay competitive.
