Analysis: I tried these shoes that can only exist thanks to 3D printing

PulsePodz: A Game Changer in 3D Printed Footwear

PulsePodz: A Revolutionary Leap in 3D Printed Footwear

Innovative Design and Comfort

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026, Syntilay unveiled its latest creation, the PulsePodz shoes. These recovery slides, according to the brand, wouldn't have been possible without 3D printing and AI. The shoes feature a unique design with nine individual pods on the base, each with a lattice structure and varying densities that provide targeted support to the foot's pressure points.

Optimized Airflow and Pressure Reduction

The structure of the PulsePodz produces a pulsing sensation, reducing pressure in the highest-stress parts of the foot. Ben Weiss, co-founder of Syntilay, explains that the goal was to create a shoe offering varying levels of pressure, allowing pressure to be dissipated when walking. The omni-directional airflow in the PulsePodz, enabled by its hollow structure, is another key feature that sets it apart from traditional footwear.

The Future of 3D Printed Footwear

Syntilay positions the PulsePodz as a significant advancement in air-based cushioning footwear systems, a claim that might seem bold given the infancy of 3D-printed footwear. However, the brand plans to extend the technology to sneakers and performance-oriented silhouettes in the future, aiming to encourage more people to try 3D printed shoes.

Addressing Perceived Barriers

One potential challenge for some consumers might be the perception of a shoe being made all in one piece. To address this, Syntilay emphasizes the flexibility of the PulsePodz, encouraging people to feel the shoes in real life. Weiss also mentioned the importance of visuals demonstrating the flexibility of the shoes.

Implications for North East India and Beyond

The advancements in 3D printed footwear, such as the PulsePodz, have broader implications for the footwear industry, including North East India. As 3D printing technology continues to evolve, it opens up possibilities for creating customized footwear tailored to individual needs, which could revolutionize the way we buy and experience shoes.

Looking Ahead

The PulsePodz slides are currently available for pre-order and are expected to begin shipping 90-120 days after pre-orders close. As we await the arrival of these innovative shoes, it's exciting to consider the potential future developments in 3D printed footwear and the impact they could have on the industry and our daily lives.
