Analysis: Samsung Galaxy S26 series could be getting satellite voice calls

Samsung Galaxy S26 Series and the Future of Satellite Communication

The Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Series and its Potential for Revolutionizing Satellite Communication

The tech world is abuzz with rumors about Samsung's latest offering, the Galaxy S26 series. One intriguing aspect that has caught our attention is the potential integration of advanced satellite communication capabilities, thanks to a new modem from Samsung.

The Exynos Modem 5410: A Game-Changer in Satellite Communication

At the heart of this development is the Exynos Modem 5410. This modem, which integrates LTE DTC, NB IoT NTN, and NR NTN on a single chip, is rumored to power the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, at least in some countries.

NB IoT NTN, or NarrowBand Internet of Things Non-Terrestrial Networks, is a communication technology that allows for reliable data transmission across deserts, oceans, and other challenging environments. It is particularly useful for transmitting small amounts of data, such as location data or text messages.

The most exciting feature of the Exynos Modem 5410, however, is LTE DTC, or Long Term Evolution Direct to Cell. This technology promises extended satellite communication capabilities, such as voice calls, even in areas without terrestrial network coverage.

Satellite Communication in the North East Region and Beyond

The potential implications of this technology for the North East region of India are significant. The region, with its vast expanses of hilly terrain and remote areas, often faces challenges in terms of network coverage. The integration of satellite communication capabilities in the Galaxy S26 series could potentially bridge this gap, providing residents with uninterrupted communication services.

The Road Ahead: Satellite Video Calls and Beyond

Beyond voice calls, the Exynos Modem 5410 also supports NR NTN, or New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks. This technology promises even better data throughput, potentially enabling features like satellite video calls in the future.

While it's important to note that these features are not yet confirmed for the Galaxy S26 series, the Exynos Modem 5410 is positioned as one of, if not the most, premium of Samsung's modems. It is made on an advanced 4nm EUV process and supports 5G NR dual connectivity across FR1 sub 6GHz and FR2 mmWave.

A New Era in Mobile Communication

If the rumors prove true, the Galaxy S26 series could usher in a new era of mobile communication. With its potential for reliable satellite communication, even in remote areas, this device could revolutionize the way we connect, not just in the North East region of India, but across the globe.
