Revisiting the Coding Journey: A Fresh Perspective

Revisiting the Coding Journey: A Fresh Perspective

In the fast-paced digital world, coding skills have become indispensable. However, for many in North East India and beyond, the journey of learning to code can be challenging and discouraging. This article aims to share a personal account of overcoming coding obstacles and embracing a new approach to learning.

The Misconceptions of Learning to Code

Four years ago, I embarked on a coding journey, only to find myself overwhelmed and disheartened. I felt that I lacked the innate talent to succeed, as I struggled to memorize syntax and relied heavily on Google for answers. It was not until recently that I realized the misconceptions I had about learning to code.

The Reality of Coding

Contrary to my beliefs, all developers, regardless of their experience or specialization, rely on Google to some extent. The difference lies in their approach to learning. Developers research their subjects thoroughly, code projects from scratch, and document their work to create tutorials. This behind-the-scenes effort is essential for understanding the intricacies of coding.

The Importance of Active Learning

In my early coding days, I focused on replicating the instructor's code without understanding its purpose or function. This passive approach led to difficulties when attempting to create my own projects. I eventually gave up, convinced that coding was not for me. However, I had overlooked a crucial aspect of learning: how I learn.

The Power of Reflection and Active Engagement

Reflecting on my reasons for learning to code, I rediscovered my initial fascination with the process of creating websites. I realized that my learning style required active engagement, such as summarizing and documenting what I was learning. This approach not only helps me understand the material better but also increases my retention of the information.

Connecting the Dots

Coding is the process of translating human ideas into a computer-readable language. Unlike learning human languages, which comes naturally to children, learning code requires a more deliberate effort. However, efforts have been made to convert code into human terms, making it more accessible to learners.

The Learning Pathways

There are various formats for learning to code, including videos, webpages, and books. The choice of learning medium depends on personal preferences, circumstances, and learning style. Regardless of the chosen format, it is essential to engage actively with the content, applying the hands-on approach to truly grasp the concepts.

Embracing the Coding Journey

By adopting an active learning approach, I have rekindled my passion for coding. I encourage those who have given up on their coding journey to reflect on their reasons for learning and to find a learning style that suits them. Coding can be a frustrating yet rewarding journey, and we should not judge ourselves or others for the way we learn.

Welcome to KingsDevMedia, where I will share my coding journey, including the projects I am working on and the lessons I am learning along the way. I invite you to join me on this exciting adventure.
